Spinal stenosis is a medical condition in which the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinal cord and nerves.

Most often it is due to the common occurrence of  bulging discs, herniated discs, or spinal degeneration. Osteoporosis or a tumor can cause stenosis but are less likely to be the cause.

Spinal stenosis may affect the cervical (neck), thoracic (middle back) or lumbar (low back) spine. In some cases, it may be present in all three places in the same patient. Lumbar spinal stenosis results in low back pain as well as pain or abnormal sensations in the legs, thighs, feet or buttocks, or loss of bladder and bowel control.

Cervical Stenosis in the neck results in neck pain, arm pain, headaches,  shoulder pain, or tingling and numbness in the arms and hands.
